Terminology

The peer review procedure involves a kind of quality control by subject experts before an article is published.
When you can narrow your search to peer-reviewed articles in databases, it is important to consider that peer review in that case is at the journal level, which means that the journal may also contain articles that have not undergone the peer review process (editorials, debate articles, book reviews, etc.). Peer-reviewed journals may be specified with slightly different terminology depending on e.g. database.
The following terms may appear:

  •     Peer reviewed journals
  •     Scholarly journals
  •     Academic journals
  •     Referentgranskad (Swedish)
  •     Vertaisarvioitu (Finnish)

More information about the peer review procedure can be found here.
